FLYING COLOURS is the highly anticipated third album from Australia's most coveted hip hop act Bliss N Eso. A testament to a decade of producing the most unique and undefinable sounds in the country, FLYING COLOURS sees Bliss N Eso compose their most accomplished work to date.
The flowing poetic lyricism, soulful sampling and thumping beats showcased throughout FLYING COLOURS demonstrates the maturity Bliss N Eso have developed in both songwriting and production since the release of 2005's 'Day of the Dog'. Bliss N Eso will leave fans exhilarated and captivate all music fans as they unveil FLYING COLOURS.
Recorded over a 12 month period accross three different continents, FLYING COLOURS features some of music's finest talent, including Illmaculate (World freestyle and Scribble Jam champion), South Africa's twenty piece Zulu Connections Choir, US native Debaser and local artists Hyjak and Phrase.
While Bliss N Eso's growth as artists is brought to the forefront in FLYING COLOURS, so is their fresh world view. The third track and first single taken from the album is a highly charged rework of Citizen Cope's Bullet and a Target. Having already met critical acclaim and commercial airplay, Bullet and a Target succeeds in its mission of awakening the minds and stirring the hearts of listeners with a strong plea regarding the hardship suffered by the African community.
Sea Is Rising is another topical insight into world issues, while the uplifting Never Give Up is a soulful reminder that there is still hope. Climb These Cliffs is an example of Bliss N Eso's multi-layered approach to making music; on the surface the tune is laid back, incorporating heavy sampling, while the lyrics move from light hearted to introspective.
The crew show us their lighter side with tongue in cheek tracks Happy in My Hoody and Royal Flush, songs made for dancing which touch on elements of Aussie street culture in a sometimes satirical manner.
Party starter Woodstock 2008 is the perfect introduction to the up tempo sounds of FLYING COLOURS and is guaranteed to "set the roof on fire" with its bouncing beats and hard hitting lyrics. The smooth sounding Eye of the Storm focuses on the little things both in lyric and production. Sampling Angus and Julia Stone's Paper Aeroplane, Eye of the Storm showcases Bliss N Eso's softer side.
The dancing continues with Zionbash, a mission statement by Bliss N Eso to keep the party pumping, a statement they've reinforced time and again through their dynamic live performances over the years. They further this statement with At Midnight, The Truth and Field of Dreams (featuring 2008's songstress to watch Paris Wells), each track a testament to Bliss N Eso's determination to move forward and achieve their dreams, while acknowledging what can be, at times, a fickle industry.
It is the ability of Bliss N Eso to constantly absorb and question the musical and social environments around them that will ensure their music continues to progress in an upward trajectory with FLYING COLOURS.
