Downsyde Hit The Road & Airwaves
Wednesday, 4 February 2009
West Australian party hip-hop kings Downsyde are set to kick off '09 with an atomic sized bang and embark on their first major national tour in three years. The six-man crew, who reclaimed their throne in 2008 with the release of the sublime All City, will depart in March on 20+ date tour which encapsulates all major cities and a heap of their favourite regional locations.Although the group have now released four of the most popular, influential and critically acclaimed hip-hop albums to come out of the country – they are arguably most well-known for their phenomenal, roof-inflaming live show which has been witnessed by tens of thousands of Australians over the past decade. In a time when locally produced hip-hop music was still unaccepted by the mainstream, Downsyde were selling out shows thanks to word-of-mouth of their incredible performances which incorporate a fully-fledged live band alongside the more traditional MC / DJ set-up. This already amazing performance has grown stronger with each passing year and now sees them hailed as one of the most acclaimed live acts in the country. This time, they'll be joined on the road by two MCs who seem to be on everyone's lips, Perth's own Drapht and Melbourne's Pez.
This tour coincides with the release of All City's major single, Life Speed, which is already rocketing its way onto national commercial and community radio. After being added across the board to Nova Brisbane you'll now hear it as well nationally on Nova's Launchpad program. As always, Downsyde continue to receive big love from long-time supporters Triple J. Hot weather just doesn't feel complete without another Downsyde summer anthem to pump and without them blowing away thousands of punters at their notorious sold-out live shows. Finally, things are back to normal.
